After 7 weeks of very hard work our crane project is nearing an end. Hanging of the cranes starts tomorrow and the oficial opening is 1pm Sunday afternoon.

Lots of photos and full details of the project will follow but here is a very breif outline.

On August 6th this year, an exhibit with over 5000 origami cranes will open in the Atrium at Federation Square. The aims of this project are to involve local and international students, the creative community and origami afficionados in the creation of a giant image of a bonsai made from paper cranes.
(The Bonsai tree will be about 18m tall and 20m wide)

In 1945, scientists declared that nothing would grow for 50 years after the bombing of Hiroshima. But soon after the bombing the first plants to appear were the medicinal herb Ginkgo Biloba, a plant also popular with the bonsai tradition.
