Paper animations are technically automata. Automata are self-operating machines or mecha-nisms that usually do a trick when turned. Paper automata have been around since the 19th century. Then, they were scenarios with movable figures powered by sand, hot air, pressed air, push and pull and crank mechanisms.

This web site has work for sale by Rob Ives from the UK, Keisuke Saka from Japan and Walter Ruffler from Germany.

Most of the kits sell for around $10 US an are probally available else were. If you are looking for work from several different artists then this could be a good chance to save on postage..
